Newmarket trainer Luca Cumani confirmed today that Falbrav will run in the $2million Breeders' Cup Turf at Santa Anita on Saturday.
Connections of the multiple Group One winner had been mulling over a possible tilt at the Classic which is over 10 furlongs on dirt - a surface the son of Fairy King has not encountered in public before - but they have instead opted for the mile-and-a-half Turf.
"He will go in the Turf," Cumani said. "The owners decided that it was the most sensible course of action as we would have been guessing a bit on the dirt."
The Turf had been stated as the first preference for the colt, but the Classic, at $4 million the richest race on the Breeders' Cup card had also been a consideration.
The decision was taken by owners Luciano Salice and Teruya Yoshida, who are equal partners. As a result of the announcement, Ladbrokes have cut Falbrav's odds to 9-4 joint-favourite from 11-4 for the prestigious contest.
Falbrav will now have the chance to exact his revenge on old rival High Chaparral in the Turf. Aidan O'Brien's colt won the race in 2002, when the Breeders' Cup was staged at Arlington Park in Chicago, and he beat Cumani's star by a neck on a controversial renewal of the Ireland The Food Island Champion Stakes at Leopardstown last month.
Falbrav's jockey Darryll Holland objected to the winner for taking his ground that day but after a stewards' inquiry the result was allowed to stand.
The runner-up's connections contested the decision at the Turf Club yesterday but the appeal was dismissed and the original result was confirmed.
"The appeal didn't go our way. We gave it a shot and now we've forgotten about it," said Cumani, who confirmed Holland as Falbrav's jockey in California.
Falbrav was not originally entered in the Breeders' Cup, but earlier this month connections went ahead and paid $120,000 to pre-enter the horse for two races at the world's richest race meeting.
Ladbrokes' Breeders' Cup Turf betting:9-4 (from 11-4) Falbrav, Storming Home, 5-2 (from 9-4) Sulamani, 5-1 High Chaparral, 14-1 The Tin Man, 25-1 Toccet, 33-1 Balto Star.
