Ms Etain Doyle the chairwoman of Comreg the communications regulator is to step down from her position early next year.
Ms Doyle informed the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources that she does not wish to be considered for re-appointment to ComReg when her current term of office ends on November 30th this year.
It is understood that Ms Doyle intends to enroll in a film-making course in New York next year.
Fine Gael's communications spokesperson, Mr Simon Coveney TD today expressed disappointment at Ms Doyle's decision but wished her well for the future.
He thanked Ms Doyle for the work that she has done, particularly in the area of introducing competition to the telecommunications marketplace, in order to ensure that the consumer gets better value and service.
