ESB International wins Syrian contract

ESB International has won a £1.02 million (euro 1.3 million) contract in Syria.

ESB International has won a £1.02 million (euro 1.3 million) contract in Syria.

The company has been appointed as consultant to Syrian government-owned power utility Public Establishment of Electricity for Generation and Transmission to manage a major expansion of their electricity network.

The contract for services will include tender evaluation and negotiation with the turnkey contractor, project management and site construction supervision services.

ESBI won the contract following an international competition with bidders from Sweden, the United Kingdom and France.

The expansion will increase the output of the Tishreen unit near Damascus from 200MW to 300MW. Work will begin in September 2001 and be completed by late 2003.

This is the second contract won by ESBI in Syria this year.
