Survey on Tunnel flawed - IRHA

The Irish Road Haulage Association is disputing the National Institute of Transport and Logistics (NITL) survey on Dublin Port Tunnel vehicle height as being flawed because it was not carried out over a 24 hour period.

While the IRHA welcomed the survey, they claim it missed ten ferry sailings and a greater number of trucks because researchers only surveyed between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. It missed almost 40 per cent of the total Dublin Port Traffic said Mr Eamonn Morrissey, President of the IRHA. "The question begs to be asked how many trucks are really affected on a 24-hour basis?" he asked. Independent TD, Mr Finian McGrath, strongly condemned "all the positive spin" surrounding the Port Tunnel. He had received complaints from residents of Marino, Santry and Fairview about damage from the tunnelling.
