Satisfaction for Dutch masters

Those in senior positions in Dutch schools are happy in their work, according to a recent survey. Staff in senior roles in primary and second-level schools work long hours and a quarter of them take extra work home with them, but the majority of respondents said they enjoyed their work and gained satisfaction from it.

Suggestions in the survey for reducing stress included training and employing more support staff for schools, improving the internal organisation of schools and introducing a better system for assigning tasks and responsibilities.

A survey next year will look at the pressure, tasks and responsibilities of teachers and staff at ordinary level.
