UL Graduate Medical School Open Evening

The UL Graduate Medical School is hosting an open evening for prospective students at 7pm tomorrow at the Kemmy Business School Building in UL. Foundation Head of the School, Professor Paul Finucane will outline all aspects of the programme and current UL graduate medical school students will be on hand to give first hand advice. The Big Sing

It's not too late for primary and secondary schools to take part in the Big Sing. Taking place on Thursday, November 27th, 2008 at 2.45pm children in schools all over Ireland and the UK will sing to break the existing Guinness World Record of 293,978 children singing simultaneously.

Any school can take part at no cost to them. However, schools are asked to consider voluntarily collecting €1 per participating pupil, the proceeds from which will be split between ISPCC Childline and Special Olympics Ireland. Open Days at NUI Maynooth

The Irish Times School Mag

The deadline to register your school to participate in The Irish TimesSchool Mag competition is fast approaching. Secondary school students who wish to enter an original magazine in the competition should e-mail schoolmag@irish-times.ie with name and contact details by Friday, November 28th. Hints and guidelines on how to write, edit and lay out a good school mag will appear every Wednesday in the Transition Times pages in the coming weeks.

Seamus Heaney Lecture Series

The next lecture, entitled Irish Migrant and Diasporic Identities by Prof Mary Hickman and Dr Abel Ugba takes place on Monday, December 1st at 8pm.

Prof Hickman will examine how Irish experiences of emigration and diaspora can inform perceptions of and attitudes towards multiculturalism and diversity in Ireland. Dr Ugba will discuss the implications of a survey he conducted in the Greater Dublin Area in 2004, where the majority of African immigrants expressed a desire to make Ireland their home or a second home.
