Control Arms campaign
Oxfam and Amnesty International have recently launched the Control Arms campaign, making Ireland one of 70 countries to support this worldwide initiative. Every year, throughout the world, more than half a million people are killed by armed violence - that's one person every minute. The campaign is asking for people to "face up" to Arms Control and add their faces (either photo or hand drawn) to a giant photo petition, the Million Faces Project. The project will be exhibited around the State early next year with the aim of persuading the Irish Government to sign up to an International Trade Treaty. This is a campaign in which parents, teachers and students can all become involved. Please visit the website at www.controlarms.org. Action cards for the campaign are available for schools, parents and students by contacting Rebecca Emery at Oxfam Ireland on (01) 604 0703.
