Had you any famous classmates? Raymond Bates of the Lotto.
Did you have any hidden talents at school? I was in a harmonica band.
What was your best subject? Maths.
Your worst? Latin. I blame Horace's Odes.
Who was your most inspirational teacher? There were many at O'Connell's. Kit Carroll, my maths teacher was especially influential - a gentle man and a great teacher.
Where did you go to college? I studied chemical engineering at UCD and did a Master's in engineering in Atlanta, Georgia
What's the best thing about the Irish education system? The opportunity to study eight subjects at a high level.
The worst thing? The points system should be weighted to reflect students' performance in the subjects relevant to their college choices.
What song most reminds you of your school days? Nothing brings me back to college like the Beatles' Abbey Road.
