The Edge (Mr David Evans) was at the High Court yesterday for the conclusion of the hearing of his challenge to An Bord Pleanála's refusal of permission for construction of a premises of about 8,000 sq ft at his home at Dalkey, Co Dublin.

Mr Evans did not give evidence but sat at the back of the court, taking notes.

Mr Justice Kearns reserved judgment on the two-day hearing and said he would give his decision on November 7th.

The court has heard that Mr Evans wants to carry out "substantial works" at his home on a 2.6-acre site on Vico Road. He plans to demolish an existing single-storey extension, conservatory and garage and to build a new two-storey dwelling with a garage incorporating the remainder of an existing two-storey cottage.

During yesterday's hearing Mr Justice Kearns remarked that enormous care had been taken in preparing the application for permission through consultations with neighbours and local residents, and Mr Evans had complied with every requirement of the planning authority.

Mr Damian Keaney, for An Bord Pleanála, said it was not acceptable that the proposed building would be visible at certain points on the seaward side of Vico Road. He said there was material before the board to justify refusing permission.
