The Minister for Communications is expected to announce today that some 160 jobs are to be created in Dundalk, Co Louth, by two European companies.
Swiss-based company ABB is to invest €8.3 million in a centre for quality control systems for the paper and pulp industries, creating 100 new positions.
Italian software firm Finmatica is planning a technical support centre and licensing operation in the town, creating 60 jobs.
Both projects are IDA-backed and are set to be announced by Mr Dermot Ahern later today.
The news comes just two days after nearly 1,000 jobs were lost.
American high-tech firm 3COM announced on Wednesday it was closing its manufacturing facility in Dublin, leading to 640 job losses.
Electrical equipment company Schneider also said it was closing its plant in Celbridge, Co Kildare, resulting in the loss of 265 permanent and 50 part-time positions.
