Gardaí do not believe the shooting dead of a man in a Dublin pub last night was part of a gangland-style killing, it has emerged today.

The 35-year-old man was shot dead in front of a number of patrons in Clery's pub on the Sarsfield Road, Inchicore, shortly after 9.15 p.m.

A Garda spokesman said that while he believed the killing was "targeted", preliminary inquiries did not reveal evidence of a gangland-style killing.

Witnesses say the assailant entered the pub wearing a motorcycle helmet and fired several shots at the victim, one of them apparently hitting him in the upper body.
