Paris - Several dozen people were missing after an explosion aboard a vessel trying to smuggle illegal migrants from the Comoro Islands, off the East African coast, to the nearby French-ruled island of Mayotte, a French official said yesterday.
The official, speaking from the government administration building in Mayotte, said that six survivors were picked up by a French fishing vessel between the Comoros and the African coast after drifting at sea for nine days.
