Ireland's Ken Doherty came from behind to beat Jimmy White 5-4 in the £597,200 sterling LG Cup in Preston last night.
White should have beaten last season's World and UK Championship runner-up, but he missed the final blue of a deciding frame.
Doherty punished that blunder and potted the last two colours to join defending champion Chris Small in the quarter-finals.
The Dubliner will play Stephen Hendry's conqueror, Michael Holt, or Hong Kong's Marco Fu for a place in the semi-final.
