More than €1.5 million in European funding was allocated to help regeneratesectarian flashpoint areas in Derry today.
Grants totalling €1.55 million were allocated to community groups in theBrandywell, Fountain, Irish Street, Gobnascale, Tullyally and Currnierin areas.
Ms Oonagh McGillion, manager of the Local Strategy Partnership, which allocatedthe funds, said the projects were designed to promote "higher levels ofcommunity participation in the regeneration of neighbourhoods affected by theconflict in Northern Ireland".
"In total there are 25 projects approved which are contributing to localneighbourhood renewal and promoting the integration and inclusion ofmarginalised and disadvantaged groups," she said.
"These projects aim to create new sporting and community facilities for useby the local communities, a reduction in sectarian conflict, provision of newjobs in disadvantaged areas of the city and district, and enhance skills andqualifications of people from the interface areas."
