Western Province centre Jean de Villiers was called up to the South Africa squadtoday for next month's World Cup in Australia after the withdrawal of Gcobani Bobo.
Bobo was released from the squad yesterday after he sustained torn ligaments in his left knee during the Springboks' 45-24 win over Free State in a warm-up match the previous day.
De Villiers, 22, won his sole test cap against France in Marseille last year. His debut lasted only seven minutes before he was stretchered off, also with torn knee ligaments, which kept him out of the game for six months.
He has been in outstanding form for Western Province in the first round of the Currie Cup, scoring five tries in six matches.
The Springboks open their World Cup campaign against Uruguay on October 11th.
