SIX pieces of legislation will be debated when the Dail resumes fur just one day on Thursday.
In the aftermath of the death of Veronica Guerin, the Taoiseach, Mr Bruton, announced that the House would meet on July 25th for a debate on drugs and crime.
The one day recall would also be used to pass Fianna Fail's Organised Crime (Restraint and Disposal of Illicit Assets) Bill, 1996, which proposes to allow the courts to freeze the assets of suspected criminals in the absence of a conviction.
However, in addition to this Bill, time has been allocated for statements on Northern Ireland and several other pieces of legislation will be dealt with, without debate. These are the Meteorology Bill, the National Standards Authority of Ireland Bill and the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Bill.
The Second Stage of the Criminal Justice (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill will also be dealt with, while the Taxes (Disclosure of Certain Information) Bill is scheduled to go through by 5 p.m.
Three hours have been set aside for the Fianna Fail Bill which has been extensively rewritten by the Department of Justice. The legislation will go through all stages and the Seanad will meet on Friday to expedite its passage into law.
