The Barr tribunal, investigating the shooting dead by gardaí of Mr John Carty in Abbeylara, has cost €1.72 million since it was established the Minister for Justice, Mr McDowell, informed Mr Jim Glennon (FF, Dublin North).
Mr McDowell said that the future liability of legal costs for the two tribunals could not be determined, because it is unclear at this point how long the tribunals might sit. In addition, the tribunals had to decide whether individual parties represented before the tribunals are awarded their costs.
On Tuesday, the Taoiseach told the Dáil that the Moriarty tribunal had cost €14,406,811 since it was set up in 1997 of which €10,690,167 was paid to the tribunal's counsel.
Fine Gael's John Deasy to marry
Fine Gael Waterford TD, Mr John Deasy, is to marry TV3 reporter, Ms Maura Dirrane next year, following their engagement on Tuesday.
The couple, who are to marry next summer, met at last year's Fine Gael's Christmas party in Leinster House.The 36-year-old politician, is the son of former Minister for Agriculture, Mr Austin Deasy. Ms Dirrane is from Inis Mór, Co Galway.
