The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Cowen, has condemned this morning's car bomb attacks on two synagogues in Istanbul which have left over 20 people dead and more than 200 injured.
In a statement issued this afternoon, Mr Cowen said "these evil acts" were particularly abhorrent for Irish people who have "direct experience of the horrors associated with terrorist attacks on places of worship".
He said such acts could never be justified, describing them as "contrary to all standards of humanity.
Mr Cowen also extended his condolences to the families of the deceased.
