Gardaí investigating the fatal shooting of a man in Dublin found a gun and several rounds of ammunition in the home of the accused, a murder trial jury heard yesterday.
The Central Criminal Court heard gardaí found a .22 calibre semi-automatic handgun lying on a couch in the sitting room of the home of the accused, Mr Shay Wildes. Loose ammunition, a .22 magazine with one bullet inside and a baseball cap were beside the gun. Members of the search party also found five rounds of .38 calibre ammunition in a plastic bag on top of a kitchen press.
Det Sgt Thomas Maguire, a member of the search party, said he also searched the home of the accused's brother, Mr Kenneth Wildes, and removed a Garda scanner.
Det Sgt Maguire was giving evidence on the fourth day of the trial of Mr Shay Wildes (35), of Corbally Park, Blessington Road, Tallaght. He denies the murder of Joseph Cummins (48), of Donomore Crescent, Tallaght, on December 26th, 2001, at High Street, Tallaght.
The accused also pleads not guilty to possession of a .22 Bersa handgun, seven rounds of .22 calibre ammunition and five rounds .38 calibre ammunition at Corbally Park, Tallaght, on the same date.
The trial continues on Monday.
