Employment in the construction sector grew by 0.7 per cent in August 2003 from August 2002, according to figures released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) this morning.
According to the data, the monthly employment index increased from 138.6 in August 2002 to 139.6 in August 2003.
The data shows that the construction industry continues to expand. Much of the expansion in the year to date has been fuelled by housing completions.
A spokesman for the Construction Industry Federation (CIF) recently predicted that overall activity in the sector would drop by at least 5 per cent this year.
