Retailers from Roches Street and Catherine Street in Limerick have come together to launch what they claim is Ireland’s first fashion quarter.
The Limerick Fashion Quarter initiative is an effort to support the many independent stores and boutiques in what the retailers say is a unique shopping area.
Spokeswoman for the project Gráinne Vaughan says traders are working together as a brand to entice people to come into the Fashion Quarter from Limerick city and beyond.
“We want to specifically promote Limerick’s independently owned fashion and fashion-orientated outlets instead of just the high street chains. In the core of Limerick city centre we have a wealth of wonderful boutiques and quirky accessories and shoe stores, which have battled through and survived the recession by adapting their business model.”
According to Ms Vaughan, the fashion quarter will be of interest to wedding planners, with everything from bouquets to dresses available “entirely on these two streets alone”.
Limerick City Council has backed the project by providing floral displays, while the retailers financed the signage to brand the quarter.
