Former British boxer Chris Eubank has been released on bail after he was arrested for possession of a bladed instrument during a one-man anti-war protest at Downing Street.

The flamboyant former boxer was originally arrested yesterday after crashing his huge truck into a delivery van while trying to block the gates of Downing Street to protest against the military occupation of Iraq.

He was taken to Charing Cross police station in central London, where a blade was allegedly found during a search.

He was released on bail last night and must report to a police station at a date yet to be confirmed.

The bizarre sequence of events began when the former world middleweight champion failed to get arrested after parking his lorry, which bore the slogan, "Tony Blair military occupation causes terrorism", outside Downing Street.

A police officer refused to arrest Eubank - who had sounded his truck's horn for up to a minute - instead issuing him with a ticket for careless driving.

After being ordered out of the vehicle, Eubank held both fists in the air as he was driven away in a police car.
