Staffordshire - Mourners wept at the funeral yesterday of a father who killed his three children and then hanged himself. Around 100 people packed a small church in the village of Armitage, Staffordshire, in memory of Steven Carter, who died aged 36. His father, Alan, paid a moving tribute to a son who was loving and generous.
The children's mother, Teresa, was not in church. In a statement issued by Staffordshire Police on Monday she described her children as "bright and bubbly" and said no difficulties between herself and her husband could have justified his actions.
A post mortem revealed that the children died from the effects of breathing in fumes after being knocked out with sleeping pills.
