Newry & Armagh: Sinn Féin sources said they were confident of winning the Newry and Armagh Westminster seat after polling almost 40 per cent of the vote in the Assembly poll.

The SDLP polled only 25 per cent of the vote. Three Sinn Féiners were returned. Mr Conor Murphy was elected on the first count with 7,595 votes. He will be the party's Westminster election candidate. Mr Davy Hyland (5,779) and Ms Patricia O'Rawe (5,478) were elected on the fifth count.

Mr Dominic Bradley of the SDLP (4,111) also came in on the fifth count.

The youngest member of the last Assembly, Mr Paul Berry (27), topped the poll for the DUP with 8,125 votes.
