Two former senior officials at the Blood Transfusion Service Board (BTSB) were charged today with unlawfully allowing anti-D blood products contaminated with hepatitis C to be administered to seven women between 1977 and 1992.
Dr Terry Walsh Holly Park Avenue, Foxrock, the former Chief Medical consultant with the BTSB, was charged with seven offences under Section 23 of the Offences Against the Person Act at the Dublin District Court.
Dr Walsh made no response when charged.
Dr Cecily Cunningham, with an address at Hollybank Road, Clontarf was also charged with seven offences under the Offences Against the Person Act. Dr Cunningham is the agency's former principal biochemist. She too made no response when charged.
Both were attested at their homes this morning.
Judge Geoffrey Brown adjourned the preliminary hearing until September 24th.
