Two Limerick brothers appeared in court today on a number of charges including threatening to kill another man in the city last week.

Kieran Collopy (34), St Ita’s Street, St Mary’s Park, Limerick and his brother Damian (20) of the same address appeared before Limerick District Court today.

Both men are charged with threatening to kill Willie Moran at St Senan’s Street in St Mary’s Park last Wednesday and with trespassing on the same date.

Kieran Collopy is also charged with assaulting Mr Moran.

Garda Donal Moynihan gave evidence of arresteing Damian Collopy last Friday at 6.43pm in the St Ita’s Street area of St Mary’s Park.

He said the 20-year-old made no reply when he was formally charged at Henry Street Garda station yesterday.

Garda Colum O’Shea gave evidence of arresting Kieran Collopy on the same day and formally charging him yesterday. The court heard the 34-year-old also made no reply to the charge.

Inspector Seamus Nolan asked that both men be remanded in custody until Wednesday and that the State be notified in the event of any bail application.

Defence solicitor John Herbert said he would be applying for bail on behalf of both men but he told the court his clients were reserving their position regarding an application for free legal aid.

Judge John O’Neill remanded both men in custody until tomorrow when they will appear before the same court again.
