A British soldier serving in Iraq has died in a "tragic firearms incident", Britain's Ministry of Defence (MoD) said today.
Sgt John Nightingale (32), from Leeds, was a Territorial Army soldier with 217 Transport Squadron, part of 150 Regiment of the Royal Logistic Corps, based at Shaibah near Basra.
A MoD spokesman said the death was being investigated by the Royal Military Police but that Sgt Nightingale did not die as a result of enemy action.
