British police said today they had arrested 10 men under anti-terror laws in early morning raids in two English cities.

They said six men were arrested in homes across north, south and east London, and another man was detained in Manchester. They are all suspected of being involved in the commission of or preparing to carry out terrorist acts.

The men, aged in their thirties, were taken to a central London police station and would be interrogated by officers from the Anti-Terrorist Branch.

Three other men were also arrested for questioning in Manchester under anti-terror laws passed in 2000. Police gave no specific details.

Police said all 10 are believed to be Algerians.

Since September 11th, Washington's top ally has been considered a prime target for attacks and British anti-terror police have arrested about 350 people in raids since then.
