Britain today confirmed its first case of SARS.

The Health Protection Agency said the patient had recovered from Severe Acute Respitatory Syndrome and had not passed on the infection. No further public health action was required, it said. It gave no personal details about the patient.

"The HPA today (Thursday) reported the first confirmed case of SARS in the UK after laboratory testing provided a positive result," the government agency said.

Britain has three more possible SARS cases and four others have been discounted.
