London - The youngest victim of the Brixton bombing was last night preparing to leave hospital after surgeons successfully removed a four-inch nail from his head.

The 23-month-old boy, who has not been named, had the tip of the nail embedded in his brain after it went through his left temple. He is likely to be left with no more than a faint scar to mark the ordeal.

"The doctors are very pleased with his progress and he looks fine so far. He is doing really really well," a spokeswoman for Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children said.
