Red Cliff House in Co Kerry, the secret getaway for the then Bishop of Kerry, Dr Eamonn Casey, and Ms Annie Murphy during their romance in the 1970s, has gone on the market.
A former hunting lodge dating from the late 18th century, the dramatically located house on Inch Strand at the edge of the Atlantic on the Dingle peninsula was for a time a presbytery and afterwards the summer residence of the bishops of Kerry.
Private owners have run it as a guesthouse for the past 20 years.
Red Cliff House became closely associated with the love affair between the then Bishop of Kerry and Ms Murphy, the American woman who gave birth to their son, Peter.
The house is mentioned several times in Ms Murphy's book Forbidden Fruit, detailing their romantic encounters.
Auctioneers Sherry FitzGerald O'Connell in Tralee are quoting a guide price of around €650,000 for the property, which is for sale by private treaty.
