Liechtenstein v England
James Beattie was tonight handed his first competitive start for England as Sven-Goran Eriksson selected an attacking line-up for the Euro 2004 qualifier against Liechtenstein.
Beattie partnered Michael Owen up front, with Wayne Rooney the attacking spearhead of a midfield quartet also featuring David Beckham, Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard.
In defence, Sol Campbell was left on the bench as he is one booking from a suspension and Rio Ferdinand was injured, leaving Matthew Upson to partner John Terry.
Ashley Cole, meanwhile, was dropped, allowing Wayne Bridge to make his first competitive start since the 2-0 win against Turkey last April.
England team:
James, G Neville, Bridge, Terry, Upson, Gerrard, Beckham, Lampard, Rooney, Owen, Beattie.
