A drug addict was pinned to at bank ceiling by a gas powered security screen as he reached over the counter to steal money from the till, the Dublin District Court was told yesterday.
Remanding Brian Mulhall, (26), of Abbotstown Avenue, Finglas, Dublin, in custody to December 13th, Judge Cyril Kelly noted Mulhall needed £300 a day for heroin and this amounted to £100,000 a year.
The judge said: "I hope you, are not looking for a suspended sentence."
Garda John Lynch told Ms Isobel Kennedy, prosecuting, that when gardai arrived at the scene they found Mulhall still stuffing money into his underpants as he dangled from the ceiling by one leg.
He had £400 when gardai extricated him.
Mulhall pleaded guilty to the larceny attempt at the TSB branch on January 31st, 1996.
