The chief executive and three top executives of Austrian Airlines said today they would give up 10 per cent of their salaries next year to show pilots and cabin crews how important it is to cut costs.
Chief Executive Mr Vagn Soerensen said he was not asking for a matching pay cut from pilots and flight attendants, who have walked off the job four times since August, but wanted to demonstrate the importance of a savings package now under negotiation that will reduce the pay of future hires.
An Austrian spokesman declined to say how much money the executives were giving with the step.
