The ASTI's Standing Committee is to meet later this afternoon to discuss the report of the Teacher's Arbitration Board's(TAB's) report which says the ASTI is in breach of partnership.
The board's report, which was published this morning, says the teacher's union is breaching its partnership commitments for failing to implement the new second-level science curriculum.
ASTI had instructed its members at the end of last August not to teach the new syllabus on 'health and safety' grounds.
In a directive on the issue ASTI said that while it supported the new syllabus and 'recogniesed the importance of science for general education and well being of the country . . . conditions for its safe and successful introduction have not been met."
A spokesperson for ASTI said the meeting would convene later this afternoon with the purpose of drawing up a response to the TAB's criticism.
ASTI is expected to issue a statement after the meeting.
