Gardai are investigating a fire at an Irish Rail engineering works in Inchicore, Dublin, yesterday morning which destroyed one train carriage and slightly damaged another.
No one was injured in the fire, but the "Mark 3" passenger carriage will cost almost £500,000 to replace, according to a company spokesman.
A Garda spokesman said it is possible the fire was started by vandals, but until forensic tests were fully analysed he would not comment further.
The fire was noticed by an employee at the works at about 3.10 a.m. Four units of Dublin Fire Brigade went to the scene.
