An Elle of an editor

DUBLINER Maire O'Riordan has landed one of the plum jobs in the world of women's magazines

DUBLINER Maire O'Riordan has landed one of the plum jobs in the world of women's magazines. She has just been appointed to the much coveted position of editor of English File, the top fashion glossy. Currently working on the June issue (yes, magazines work that far in advance) 35 year old Maire says that under her direction, the magazine will have more quality writing to balance all that fashion.

"Men's magazines are known for the calibre of their writers," she says, "and that's what readers can expect of the new Elle."

After graduating from UCD in 1981, Maire worked in the library at NCAD before leaving for London and a career in journalism. She has been with EMAP, the magazine group which owns File, for the last seven years. Her last job was as editor of More! magazine, which she turned into one of the best selling magazines in Britain.

Just after her appointment she dropped home to Kilmacud to visit her family as she doesn't expect to have any time off in the foreseeable future, which certainly cancels out the image of the Bolly swigging, fashion victim magazine editor created by Joanna Lumley in the TV series Absolutely Fabulous.
