SIPTU workers at Aer Rianta have voted overwhelmingly in favour of in protest at the proposed break-up of the company.
SIPTU national industrial secretary, Mr Michael Halpenny, was delighted with the outcome of the ballot which was supported by 85 per cent of voters.
Describing the result as a massive support for the Union's position, he said: "The failure on the part of the management of Aer Rianta and Minister Brennan, to provide thousands of employees with guarantees as to their future employment and terms and conditions, meant that workers had no choice but to vote in favour of industrial action."
"It is a crystal clear message to all concerned that these workers need to be taken seriously," he added.
The timing and nature of the industrial action and what form it will take, will be decided at a later date. SIPTU say they intend to cause as little disruption as possible to the travelling public.
SIPTU represents over eighty per cent of workers in Aer Rianta. Towo other unions the TEEU and MANDATE have already voted for industrial action.
