Poultry processing firm Grove Turkeys in Co Monaghan has confirmed it will make 40 workers redundant this Friday following the loss of 130 jobs earlier this year.
A spokesman for the Smithboro plant said: "This regrettable decision was necessary to ensure that the business remains viable as trading conditions remained difficult in 2009 due to maket oversupply and the sustained devaluation of sterling against the euro which militated against exports to the UK whilst giving imports a competitive advantage.
Following the redundancies, Grove will continue to employ about 50 people week-to-week, together with additional casual staff at seasonal periods, it said.
The spokesman said the company "continues to seek suitable business contracts which are commercially viable and if successful, it will increase employment levels accordingly".
