Keeping an eye on planning
Farnham estate plan appealed
A plan to turn the Farnham estate (above) in Cavan to a parkland resort with a 152-bedroom hotel has been appealed to An Bord Pleanála by An Taisce and Paul and Alaoighse Hayden.
The €50 million project would include a 152-bedroom hotel and a 30-room treatment room, as well as conference and leisure facilities.
The 1,200-acre estate was sold to pharmacist Roy McCabe for over €6.35 million in October 2001 after the death of Lord Farnham. The estate has three lakes including the 100-acre plus Farnham Lake.
All change on South William Street
Dublin's fastest changing street, South William Street (above), will undergo further changes if a planning application for a change of use of the long-established fashion wholesaler Liner Fashions at 57 South William Street into to a restaurant on its basement, ground and first floors is successful. Vive Tricot Limited is also looking to turn the upper two floors into two apartments. This is one of a number of wholesale fashion businesses to leave the area in recent years and re-open as bars, restaurants and clubs.
It is believed Number 57 was built in 1769 as part of a small development by English builder and sculptor Simon Vierpyl.
