Co Wexford: Slade Cottage is on almost an acre of grounds near the beach in Bannow Bay, south Co Wexford, and is guiding €450,000, reports Kate McMorrow.

A thatched seaside cottage to stir the senses has come on the market in south Co Wexford with Sherry FitzGerald Haythornthwaite.

Beautifully restored and extended, Slade Cottage stands on 0.75 acres of mature gardens, bordered by a brook. Blackhall Strand is within yards of the boundary wall.

The cottage is close to Bannow Bay and Wellingtonbridge is the nearest town.

With an asking price of excess €450,000, three-plus bedrooms and spacious living accommodation, this is the ultimate weekend hideaway.

Care has been taken during the refurbishment to preserve the old-world character of Slade Cottage. Everything has been done, down to gas central heating and dual European and American voltage. Liscannor stone floors are laid in several rooms.

The immaculate country kitchen has a flagged floor, timber units and a high vaulted glass ceiling.

A window seat is tucked into the bay and there is a French Godin gas stove. Off the hall is a guest toilet and utility.

A vaulted ceiling with exposed beams is a striking feature in the sittingroom, where the original bellows fire has been restored.

Two of the bedrooms are also at this level, including the spacious main bedroom with its brick fireplace, built-in wardrobes and French doors to a terrace.

The en suite bathroom opens to a large sauna. Bedroom two has a cast-iron fireplace and an en suite bathroom with an antique clawfoot bath.

A staircase climbs from the sittingroom to a gallery mezzanine, where two built-in seats can be used as spare beds. The third bedroom has a timber floor.

Lovely traditional gardens surround the cottage, adding to the picture postcard image. There are colourful borders, rockeries, terraces, a herb garden and lawns.

A walk has been laid by the side of the brook and a separate paddock overlooks the beach.
