Nothing like a liquidation sale to draw a crowd

THERE’S NOTHING like the words “receiver” or “liquidator” these days to attract a crowd to a housing development.

THERE’S NOTHING like the words “receiver” or “liquidator” these days to attract a crowd to a housing development.

So agent HT Meagher O’Reilly found last weekend when over 150 people showed up to view a handful of fully finished houses at Rocky Valley Crescent in Kilmacanogue.

The large four and five-bedroom houses were part of a development where prices started out at €1.5 million-plus, but the prices have now dropped to €750,000, ranging up to €895,000 for the largest of the houses (originally priced at close to €2 million). There was most interest in this five-bedroom house, with its double detached garage, according to sales agent David Browne who says he has had offers from no less than seven potential buyers. The remaining four houses are also likely to be snapped up in the coming days, he says.

The houses were built by Roscommon builder Laragan Developments headed up by Alan Hanly on a site adjoining the grounds of the Avoca store and restaurant.
