Shopfront: Mobilia opened a short time ago on Stephen Street, Dublin 2, by Sharon Gernon, who decided to focus only on furniture for the bedroom.
The shop is the furniture equivalent of clothing stores such as Karen Millen or Reiss. Gernon stocks high-end furniture brands adapted from designs created in Milan - the centre of the best contemporary furniture design - in much the same way as high street stores water down expensive designer fashion.
But just like the clothing stores mentioned, Mobilia is not dirt cheap or poor quality. Instead you get the look without paying the earth for it. Night tables start at €190, chests of drawers at €320, tallboys at €330, beds at €990 (excluding mattress).
Some of the wardrobes at Mobilia look particularly well and come with plenty of storage options. Prices start at €730 and items can be bought in oak, cherry and ivory for €730.
Also, look out for some unusual lighting such as a string of small globes each holding a bulb and each covered with a white furry material.
