RathfarnhamA new phase of 34 apartments goes on sale from plans today through Hooke & MacDonald in one of the most eye-catching developments in south Dublin. Loreto Abbey in Rathfarnham forms a backdrop to the magnificent Georgian and Victorian buildings which comprise the original abbey.
The first phase of apartments launched last April, when 40 units were sold off the plans. For sale in the current launch are four one-bedroom units of 43-51 sq m (463-549 sq ft) and 30 two-bedroom units of 71-80 sq m (764-860 sq ft) priced at €285,000 and €350,000 respectively.
The land at Loreto Abbey was acquired five years ago by Danninger Ltd and building has commenced on the first phase of the planned 260 apartments in seven blocks, with the first owners expected to move in next spring.
The blocks will be arranged around the perimeter of the old Victorian chapel and concert hall, the late Victorian dormitory blocks and the Georgian house which comprised the abbey buildings.
An assortment of layouts and styles will suit all tastes and budgets, with high quality workmanship a priority. Most units have large sit-out balconies and en suite bathrooms. Kitchens have been designed to maximise light and space.
Thermostatically controlled showers, glass shower screens, recessed downlighting, bathroom wall and floor tiling and granite-topped vanity units are among the extra touches that will appeal to buyers.
The grounds will be landscaped to complement the existing abbey gardens, and the blocks have been designed by architect John Fleming with timber windows and cantilevered balconies, to blend with the surroundings. The blocks will be of self-colour render, edged with brick.
Loreto Abbey was bought in 1821 by the then Archbishop Murray of Dublin as a girl's school. Its most famous novice was Mother Theresa of Calcutta.
Hooke & MacDonald is accepting bookings off the plans in the sales centre at Loreto Abbey today and Friday from noon to 2 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday from 2.30 p.m. to 4.30 p.m.
