An ideal ego to sit on

The height of an armrest plays a big part in the comfort of a sofa

The height of an armrest plays a big part in the comfort of a sofa. Too high and your elbow ends up at a right angle to your chest, too low and you've nowhere to put your arm.

Some sofas do without sides but these aren't practical - how do you curl up with nowhere to rest your head? The "Ego" sofa is new to Houseworks in Dublin and Cork and comes with eight kinds of armrest so you can choose one to suit your "personal ergonomic needs".

The one pictured is quite low. Apart from armrests, this sofa also allows you choose backrest height, seating depths and widths and upholstery softness. Houseworks let you test out all the different options and while it's kind of like a tailor-made sofa, unlike getting one made specifically, you've obviously got to stick to the "Ego" style. Two-seater prices start at €3,723. Houseworks, 11-15 Upper Erne Street, Dublin 2 and Belvedere Lawn, South Douglas Road, Cork.
