John Wilson: You really should try these Albert Glas bargains before SuperValu’s wine sale ends

Wines for the Weekend: This Riesling Trocken and Pinot Noir are classic examples of their variety, and are very keenly priced too

These two wines are part of a great range of German wines from Albert Glas, currently on offer at SuperValu as part of its French and German wine sale. I recommended the Albert Glas Pinot Blanc (known as Weißburgunder in the Pfalz) in my wine column a few weeks ago, but, to be honest, all of them are classic examples of their variety, and all are very keenly priced.

Riesling is grown in many parts of the world, but the wines rarely match the quality of the German wines. While some can be sweet, the word Trocken means they will be dry, or slightly off-dry. Pinot Noir, or Spätburgunder as it is sometimes called in Germany, is widely grown, particularly in the Pfalz, which is right next door to Alsace, part of France. I would urge you to try these wines before the sale ends, next Wednesday, September 21st.
