During the summer of 2007, Steven Bloom’s outdoor exhibition of wildlife photographs in Dublin’s St Stephen’s Green proved extremely popular.

He is one of the foremost wildlife photographers in the world, and this Man-Made Images exhibition features as its centerpiece his iconic image of a swimming elephant.

Born in South Africa in 1953, Bloom was initially a documentary photographer before moving to London in 1977, where he co-founded a specialist photographic company, pioneering the use of digital techniques. It was only when he took a safari holiday in the early 1990s that he became interested in photographing animals in their natural habitats. The experience changed his life, and he abandoned his career to embark on a new one, traveling continually in search of subject matter. He has produced a huge volume of highly acclaimed work.
