AILBHE MALONEon late-night sounds and domestic bliss

TRACK OF THE WEEK:After Light, by Rustie, ft AlunaGeorge

Though Rustie’s previous output was not Pop Corner’s thing (he made Dan Deacon look restrained), he’s since taken a turn for the mainstream. A lazy steel-drum beat, combined with stripped-back Gouldingesque vocals courtesy of AlunaGeorge, means that After Light will soon be soundtracking the after-hours at everyone’s after-parties.

Since Marvin JLS and Rochelle Saturdays tied the knot, we’ve been looking for a new pop couple to take their place. Luckily, Zayn One Direction and Perrie Little Mix seem to fit the bill nicely. Perrie says of their relationship: “When we’re together at home it’s just me and Zayn. I don’t even think of him being in One Direction. He’s just a sweet little boy. His most annoying habit is the fact he doesn’t ever stop singing – he’s even worse than me.” So far Perrie hasn’t found the rumours too hard. “It’s like being at school and you start dating the popular boy in the class and everyone is jealous about it. It isn’t a big deal.”

Katy B’s been talking about her plans for her new record. Speaking to the Daily Star, the On a Mission singer explained: “I’m making the transition from being a girl into womanhood and finding out what my responsibilities are. It’s the first time I’ve lived in the real world with bills to pay, and that’s coming across in what I’m writing.” We hope that doesn’t include bangers about trying to find the fuse box in the dark.

Who knew Pink was so good at maths? She told Entertainment Weekly that she scheduled her career around her daughter’s birth. “I wanted to be home when she started preschool. I knew that if I started the record when she was seven months old, I would be done with it by the time she was a year.” She continued: “Then I would be [touring] from when she was a year to three years – that’s the perfect time to have her travelling the world with me. And then when she’s three, we’ll come home.”
