The last week of the year is normally a blank for classical concerts. This year, however, if you live near the Beara peninsula or happen to be in west Cork on St Stephen’s Day, you could always consider an afternoon in the company of American pianist David Syme. Syme splits his time between Texas, and a house off the road between Castletownbere and Adrigole (watch out for the sign carrying a logo of a grand piano).

That house is where he gives his Irish concerts, and you’ll find him in action in the most intimate of settings on Sunday, when he offers a programme of Chopin, Liszt and Christmas music. It’s best to phone in advance to make sure seats are still available.
