With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, there are several special gigs lined up around the country for February 14th, which both smug couples and bitter single people can enjoy.

Jimmy Webb, the man who wrote songs such as

Wichita Lineman

and

MacArthur Park

, will play a rare solo show at the intimate Sugar Club in Dublin. Support comes from Irish duo The Lost Brothers, who are finalising plans for the release of their second album, due this spring/ summer.

“We are thrilled to be sharing a stage with Jimmy Webb,” Oisin Leech said. “For me, he’s some kind of masterful stone cutter who lives high on the hill building timeless songs.”

Elsewhere, the National Concert Hall will stage A Musical Valentine, with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra and Big Band playing love songs by Sinatra, Martin, Williams and more, while Rearden’s in Cork hosts a Valentine’s Luv Jam. As for any Galwegians reading – you’ll have to be content with the anti-Valentine’s sounds of Scottish post-rockers Mogwai, who play the Róisín Dubh that night.
